A new hub for research and innovation within Cambridge Mathematics
AIMED, as in ‘Artificial Intelligence & Mathematics Education’, is our new creative hub that captures all the research activities and projects of Cambridge Mathematics in the field. AIMED is ‘aimed’ at formalising the work done around AI and mathematics education in response to elements of our vision related to being innovative and on top of the latest technologies.
The AIMED hub arises from the core values and aims of Cambridge Mathematics as well as those of Cambridge as a whole. Indeed, AIMED is in part a response to the wider Cambridge 2030 strategy, which highlights the importance of preparing learners for the future. Furthermore, our Cambridge Mathematics vision focuses on being ‘[a]n innovative global thought leader in mathematics education, driven by research, coherence and accessibility’; emerging technologies in general, and AI in particular, could assist with that, if approached well, scientifically, logically and looking at evidence rather than relying on trends and solely commercial products. Moreover, AIMED will highlight the pros and cons of AI in mathematics education, the challenges and the opportunities, and will attempt to provide useful and accessible resources to assist teachers, learners and policymakers alike to tackle the challenges and opportunities that AI presents.
